Photo360 contest - photosynth


Photo360 is a competition, organised by Microsoft, to create a Synth of Singapore attraction sites using Microsoft Photosynth. (Showcasing Singapore to the World)

"Supported by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS), Photo360 is a contest to rally the Singapore community to participate in the picture taking and stitching of Singapore heritage and cultural sites into one big interactive 3D viewing experience.
For a good cause and with great prizes in place, we would like to invite you to join us in this effort to showcase Singapore to the world using Microsoft Photosynth and Bing Maps."

- Judging Criteria -
* Location and orientation: What locations within a particular site are chosen and at what orientation (20%)
* Detail: Emphasize things that make your site unique (20%)
* Coverage: Synth as much as you can to provide a captivating experience for online visitors (20%)
* Photo Quality: 15%
* Judges Discretion: 15%
* Description: Include metadata about the sites you upload (10%)

My friends and I took part in this competition in the Student category. Here's our 2 photosynth -

Toa Payoh Sports Hall - Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) venue for Weightlifting and Volleyball events.

Award-winning Photosynth: "Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple"
"Best Heritage Site" PhotoSynth for Photo360. Kudos to Edward.

Tips for synthing:
* Take a minimum of 100 photos for each synth
* Try to keep to 300 photos due to performance concerns
* Minimum 5 megapixel camera
* Above 80% synthy
* Add in a minimum of 70 words description
* Geotag your synth - So people can find the synth from bing maps
* Try to avoid any CCTV cameras, people’s faces, car license plates

13 Mar 2010: Photo360 Kickoff Event (Allocation of Sites). where: Microsoft Auditorium.
13 Mar, 2pm - 18 Mar, 12pm: Photo Taking & Uploading onto Photosynth. where: Toa Payoh Sports Hall & Little India
20 Mar, 12.30pm - 3pm: Photo360 Awards Ceremony. where: Microsoft Auditorium.
